Well we are back in Autumn again, such a beautiful time of year. I cannot believe how many 30-degree days we had this summer.

I have bought my little orchard of stone fruit trees from Pagan at Terra Viva Home & Garden, after his brilliant talk about how to grow fruit trees with limited space at home, by dwarfing them or espalier growing – HOW FANTASTIC !!! He made it so easy to understand – I highly recommend coming along to these talks when they pop up.

The Café has a Masterclass cheese night coming up on 18th April from 6pm-7:30pm – tickets are available at the cafe. We only have a limited amount of these so get in quickly.

Tickets: - Single $58   Group of 4 or more - $50 each

We have the lovely Juliet Harbutt coming in to talk about her favourite subject CHEESE! As well as discovering some wonderful local artisan cheese we will have some fun finding a match with some local wines, beers and ciders.  Plus, to add an extra twist, in conjunction with Taylor Pass Honey, there will be a chance to see what honey pairs best with the cheese. The results are extraordinary, delicious and definitely something to share. So,-+ join us for a unique tasting of cheese from 4 very different artisan cheesemakers from the South Island matched with honeys from Taylor Pass Honey as well as local wines, beer and cider.

This will be followed by a lively debate and a taste of all the cheeses made by Karikaas, Barry’s Bay, Ben Ohau Cheese and Evansdale. It’s a chance to hear the stories behind the cheeses, what makes them unique and what inspired the cheesemakers to make them.

Along with our menus, which now include our cabinet options, we have our beautiful High Teas – these can now be served all day, just remember to book them.

Until July 1st, every High Tea, Cream Tea or Afternoon Tea served at the café will see $1 donated to Roydvale School, just down the road. Every six months we change our donation focus and are proud to spread the love to everyone around the community – our last donation was to Dementia Canterbury and we were delighted with the amount raised. Thank you to everyone who booked a High Tea in support of this great cause.

We also do out-catering, hold private functions and dinners which can be designed especially for your needs with the help of Vicky, Karma and the Executive Chef Steve.

“We booked our Christmas Function at Terra Viva on a Saturday evening in December. All staff were very friendly and accommodating, the food was delicious, and we were very well looked after. Our seating arrangement was perfect, as our group of 23 were all able to enjoy good banter together, and the decorations Terra Viva provided absolutely set the scene! This would be a great venue for a birthday party, wedding or like us - a brilliant spot for your Christmas or midwinter function. Thanks to all of the staff for hosting a fantastic evening for us, but an extra special thanks to Steve and Vicky for all of their extra efforts.”

Terra Viva Café has made a few changes this year already. We have some beautiful wine from Kahurangi in Nelson.

A gorgeous Rose with 100% pinot grapes, with classic Strawberry & cream flavours, vanilla, spice and floral overtones.

A deep purple Merlot with cherry & plum characters with a hint of oak and fine tannins.

An inviting Riesling with lovely ginger and apple blossom aromas, a citrus palate and well balanced finish.

Let’s not forget the brilliant Christchurch craft beer range - Three Boys and the refreshing Rotorua Croucher Low Rider

We have just launched a brand-new menu,

which IS delicious, I’ve just tried the brioche French toast with caramelized apple & rhubarb topped with cinnamon cream – oh my!!
